If you’re not happy with the default skin of Google Chrome, you can download alternative theme files. Go to Chromespot’s themes board and look for something you like; maybe the Firefox theme, a green one, or the simple gray theme called Blurk. Each theme contains a file called “default.dll”, which you need to copy over your original default.dll (I suggest you make a backup of the original first, and also note I’m not sure if there’s any side-effects to replacing the theme). Here’s the path where you need to replace the file:
In Vista: C:\Users\[your user name]\AppData\Local\Google\Chrome\Application\[current version]\Themes\
In Windows XP: C:\Documents and Settings\User\Local Settings\Application Data\Google\Chrome\Application[current version]\Themes\
This tip was shown at Lifehacker, where you’ll find more Google Chrome tricks. One of my favorite tweaks there is to push Chrome into opening in full screen at all times, because that didn’t work in the past when simply pressing Ctrl+N. What you need to do is to add the parameter -start-maximized when you start the program. For instance, the Windows file shortcut path may now be:
C:\Users\[your user name]\AppData\Local\Google\Chrome\Application\chrome.exe -start-maximized.
